How do I get a library card?

If you do not already have a card for a library in Marin County then you can apply for a new card.  You will need to bring a photo ID and proof of address to finalize your new library account.

If you are a Marin County resident then you can begin by applying here.

If you are a non-Marin County resident then you will need to visit the library to fill out a paper application.

What can I borrow and for how long?

Type How long can I check it out? Can I renew it? What if I return them late?

3 Weeks Yes, for three (3) weeks if it is not reserved for someone else There is an overdue charge of 25 cents per day for each item.
DVDs 1 Week Yes, for one (1) week if it is not reserved for someone else There is an overdue charge of $1 per day for each item.
Music CDs 1 Week Yes, for one (1) week if it is not reserved for someone else There is an overdue charge of 25 cents per day for each item.
“Hot Flicks”

1 Week No, Hot Flicks cannot be renewed There is an overdue charge of $1 dollar per day for each item.

1-2 weeks depending on number of pages No “Bestsellers” cannot be renewed There is an overdue charge of 50 cents per day for each item.

How do I see what I have checked out?
With your library card and PIN, you can access your library account online on MyMARINetWith MyMARINet you can:

  • See what you have checked out
  • Renew what you have checked out
  • Reserve items for pickup at the library
  • View and pay library fees
  • Start your Reading History to keep a record of the items you check out.

Where can I return my library items?

You can return your items to any public library in Marin County and to the Alemany Library at Dominican University.It is okay to return DVDs in the outside book drops (Some cases still have stickers that say this is not permitted).
